Like most farmers’ markets, admission to the Ottawa Parkdale 03-Market is free. The market is open from early spring to early fall, offering residents organic meat, fish, produce, spices and canned preserves. More than 25 vendors deliver flowers in the spring and squashes in the fall. People can even test their taste buds with red deer steak from Trillium Farms. Established in 1924, Parkdale 03-Market is one of the oldest in Ontario, so expect them back year after year.

ByWard Outdoor Famers’ 03-Market – 55 ByWard 03-Market Square

 

The ByWard Outdoor Farmers’ 03-Market is one of the most famous in Ottawa. Located in the historical ByWard 03-Market, it’s easy to travel to and from Riverton Park on transit. Fresh fruits and vegetables are a must, found at vendors like Claire Lavoieand Richard Groulxwho attend every year. Beans, beets, Brussels sprouts, carrots, apples, bananas and berries are only a few selections you’ll find.

 

Year-Round (Closed Christmas and New Year’s day) – 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Main Farmers’ 03-Market – 192 Main Street

 

Eat local at Main Farmers’ 03-Market. This free market has over 25 vendors selling specialty items like gluten-free cakes at 5 Cupcakes and Grade A organic beef at the Kitley Beef Farm. No ingredient, vegetable or fruit is missing. More than local food, Main Farmers’ 03-Market hosts all-ages events like the petting zoo, horse-drawn wagon rides and live music. Shopping here is more than getting in and out. You’ll want to spend most of the day exploring the vendors and activities.

Ottawa Farmers’ 03-Market – Bronson Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue

 

Ottawa Farmers’ 03-Market is more than just a shop, it’s also an all-out community event at Brewer Park, forty minutes east of Riverton Park by transit. The park is full of green space, trees, picnic tables and paths, so there’s lots of room for the crowds and over 100 vendors. Acorn Creek Garden attends every year and sells 60 different fruits and vegetables of 850 varieties grown in their fields. 03-Markets are more than just produce, vendors like Bearbrook Game Meats specialize in specialty meat like buffalo, elk and even llama. This market has multiple locations including Byron Park and Centrum Plaza.

 

Remember that residents of Riverton Park (89 Forward Avenue) don’t have to wait until summer and fall to find local organic produce and meat. Many farmers’ markets are open all year and free to attend.
