Not only does Ottawa have a variety of restaurants and tourist attractions, but the city also provides a fantastic atmosphere for those who enjoy being active all year round. Whether it’s a high-intensity workout or yoga with a view, Ottawa has an activity for everyone to enjoy while being easily accessible from our Osgoode properties thanks to OC Transpo and stress-free shuttle buses.

1. Water Adventures at Dow's Lake

Between the months of May and early October, Dow’s Lake provides excellent summer rentals for outdoor exploration and activity. Centrally located and easily accessible, this area is closest to our downtown neighbourhood. Activities that you can try include renting canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and paddleboats! No previous experience or equipment is required – everything from a life jacket to dry lockers are included to ensure that you have a fantastic experience on the river. To learn more about this water experience, visit the Dow’s Lake website here

2. Go for a Hike in Gatineau Park

With weekend shuttles from the National Capital Commission available now through August 28th, it’s easier than ever to take a hike and explore the iconic attractions of Gatineau Park. Enjoy the beautiful views at Champlain Lookout or Pink Lake before heading on an unforgettable summer adventure through the stunning trails of Gatineau. With many stops along the trail, this activity will help you get all your daily steps in and will leave you with a camera roll full of amazing summer memories to look back on. Take a look at the NCC website for all the details on the shuttle and to discover everything you need to know about this must-visit park!

3. Embrace Your Inner Yogi

Practicing yoga inside is one thing, but outside elevates the experience unlike anything else. Ottawa is lucky to have many yoga classes and activities available for every level of experience, with a variety of events and classes happening outdoors in the summer. One of which is Lansdowne Park’s full moon yoga, which happens once a month under a full moon. With the next session coming up on August 11th at 9:00 pm, this free event is one hour long and is located on Lansdowne’s Great Lawn. Another yoga event happening consistently throughout the summer is Pure Yoga’s weekly class by instructor Brittany Bryden. This costs $21 per class and is located in the dreamiest hidden courtyard garden of the National Gallery of Canada!

4. Take Advantage of Weekend Bike Days

Every weekend from May to October, the National Capital Commission opens parkways in Ottawa exclusively for active use. Activities include biking, walking, running and in-line skating are all welcome during mornings and afternoons on these days. Experiencing the car-free roads is a fantastic way to enjoy some of our National Capital’s most beautiful summer views in a fun, environmentally-friendly way. Locations participating in the 2022 Weekend Bike Days include the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway, the Queen Elizabeth Driveway, the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway, and Gatineau Park.

Explore Ottawa’s Museums and Art Galleries

Ottawa is home to many museums and art galleries that have become major staples within our city. Whatever you’re passionate about – be it Canadian history, nature, science, or animals – there is likely a museum that would be a perfect day trip for you!

Just a short drive away from our Juliana Apartments on Bronson, the Canadian Museum of Nature awaits. Perfect for those curious about animals, nature, and the environment – this museum features amazing exhibits about the earth’s natural history, where visitors can explore geology, anthropology, and even life-sized dinosaurs on display.

The museum provides evidence-based insights, inspiring experiences, and meaningful engagement with nature's past, present and future. It achieves this through scientific research, a 14.6 million specimen collection, education programs, signature and travelling exhibitions.

Experience Ottawa's Highlights from a Different Perspective

Even if you live in the Ottawa-Gatineau area, there's always a new way to experience the city! There are various ways to explore the water via boating adventures, whether you're an avid boat-lover or just looking for a relaxing tourist experience. Paul's Boat Line and Rideau Canal Cruises are two options for how you can experience Ottawa from a new perspective, taking you on a journey from the Château Laurier to Dow's Lake. Both tours take approximately an hour and a half to see Ottawa and Gatineau's beautiful city landscapes, rich history, and iconic landmarks!

Outdoor Adventures in Gatineau Park

Gatineau Park is popular and well-loved as the National Capital's conservation area and the largest green space in the region, featuring a variety of must-visit summer destinations. Whether you prefer to spend a day relaxing on the beach of Lac Phillipe or planning a more adventurous route through the Lusk Caves, this park has many scenic adventures with something for everyone to enjoy.

From June 25 to August 28, the NCC will be providing a free shuttle bus service on Saturdays and Sundays to the park's most popular destinations. Our residents at Riverton Park, Rockcliffe Arms, and the Juliana Apartments, are closest to the two centrally-located shuttle bus boarding stops at Wellington and Lyon and the Canadian Museum of History.

Celebrate Patio Season with Local Dining

With warm summer temperatures comes the opportunity to dine outside at many of our favourite restaurants. Both Ottawa and Gatineau have far too many beautiful patios and rooftop spots for us to list out here, so a big thank you to Ottawa Tourism, who covered them with an all-inclusive list of outdoor dining organized by neighbourhood. When it comes to outdoor dining in Gatineau, we recommend taking a look at this compilation created by Ottawa Resto. Whether you're feeling like Mexican, Chinese, or maybe something new, we couldn't be prouder of all the locally-owned and operated restaurants available – not to mention delicious!
