Five Outdoor Activities in Ottawa to Stay Active This Summer

  |     |   Community, Ottawa

Not only does Ottawa have a variety of restaurants and tourist attractions, but the city also provides a fantastic atmosphere for those who enjoy being active all year round. Whether it’s a high-intensity workout or yoga with a view, Ottawa has an activity for everyone to enjoy while being easily accessible from our Osgoode properties thanks to OC Transpo and stress-free shuttle buses.

1. Water Adventures at Dow's Lake

Between the months of May and early October, Dow’s Lake provides excellent summer rentals for outdoor exploration and activity. Centrally located and easily accessible, this area is closest to our downtown neighbourhood. Activities that you can try include renting canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and paddleboats! No previous experience or equipment is required – everything from a life jacket to dry lockers are included to ensure that you have a fantastic experience on the river. 2. Go for a Hike in Gatineau Park

With weekend shuttles from the National Capital Commission available now through August 28th, it’s easier than ever to take a hike and explore the iconic attractions of Gatineau Park. Enjoy the beautiful views at Champlain Lookout or Pink Lake before heading on an unforgettable summer adventure through the stunning trails of Gatineau. With many stops along the trail, this activity will help you get all your daily steps in and will leave you with a camera roll full of amazing summer memories to look back on. 3. Embrace Your Inner Yogi

Practicing yoga inside is one thing, but outside elevates the experience unlike anything else. Ottawa is lucky to have many yoga classes and activities available for every level of experience, with a variety of events and classes happening outdoors in the summer. One of which is Lansdowne Park’s full moon yoga, which happens once a month under a full moon. With the next session coming up on August 11th at 9:00 pm, this free event is one hour long and is located on Lansdowne’s Great Lawn. Another yoga event happening consistently throughout the summer is Pure Yoga’s weekly class by instructor Brittany Bryden. This costs $21 per class and is located in the dreamiest hidden courtyard garden of the National Gallery of Canada!

4. Take Advantage of Weekend Bike Days

Every weekend from May to October, the National Capital Commission opens parkways in Ottawa exclusively for active use. Activities include biking, walking, running and in-line skating are all welcome during mornings and afternoons on these days. Experiencing the car-free roads is a fantastic way to enjoy some of our National Capital’s most beautiful summer views in a fun, environmentally-friendly way. Locations participating in the 2022 Weekend Bike Days include the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway, the Queen Elizabeth Driveway, the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway, and Gatineau Park.
