While small space living has many benefits, there is a challenge that some of our tenants’ face – how (and where) to store kitchen appliance essentials without taking up a lot of counter or cabinet space. That’s why we recommend investing in multi-purpose products and smaller-sized appliances that can help maximize the room in your cabinets and on your countertops for all the things that matter.
Let’s get started!
Coffee, anyone?
Depending on how much of a coffee fanatic you are, your coffee machine might be one you’ll consider swapping out. The more professional espresso and traditional bean-grinding appliances can take up a lot of space on your counter! There are a variety of modern coffee machine alternatives that make great coffee and feature slimmer designs, ideal for sliding into small nooks and corners in the kitchen. An option to consider is the Keurig K-Mini Single Serve Coffee Maker, available in a multitude of colours to fit your design style, and budget-friendly.

One appliance, many uses!
When you invest in an appliance that has multiple uses, you’re maximizing your cooking efficiency and storage needs! A great example of this made famous by social media influences posting must-try recipes is the Instant Pot, a 9-in-1 cooker that to name a few, can act as a slow cooker, pressure cooker, cake maker, soup maker, and more. Another multi-functional appliance that’s been taking over the internet lately is the airfryer. Essentially, a countertop convection oven that can fry almost any food you can think of into crispy perfection without all the oil and added calories! Available at a variety of price points and designs, it’s hard to not get excited when thinking about crispy french fries and juicy chicken wings whipped up in minutes!

Blend In Style
Blenders are another kitchen tool that take up more room than needed. Unless you’re consistently using your blender every day, there’s almost no use for a large, old-fashioned appliance that takes up unnecessary space. Nowadays, we’re lucky to have a variety of other options at our disposal – and not all of them are as pricey as the popular Vitamix. A budget-friendly alternative is the Magic Bullet, which is sold by itself and also as a part of an 11-piece set! Its compact design makes for an easy fit on your countertop, while not sacrificing blending power.

Cabinetry Organization
Because the inside of your cabinets is hidden, it’s easy to let things pile up and get disorganized. It’s important to keep your cabinets clean and organized, not only to maximize the space but to help eliminate the need to use your countertop as storage while ensuring everything has its proper place. This allows for a more organized look and when items have a “home” this will likely remain more consistent in your cleaning routine.
Jars, baskets, and clear containers are all inexpensive ways to organize your cabinets! We recommend these clear storage containers from Amazon for storing smaller items like spices, canned goods and snacks, allowing you to stack to maximize height storage while making it easy to see what’s inside, remove and put back.

If you take away one thing from this article, we hope it’s to not underestimate the power of small kitchens! Anything is possible when you invest in the right organization tools, smaller appliances, and powerful multi-functional products.
At the end of the day, try to focus on what your kitchen needs over what your kitchen wants. There’s no harm in treating yourself to something that you know you’ll use on a consistent basis. After all, we all have to store, prepare, serve, and consume food everyday – so we might as well make the experience as easy and as fun as possible!
