]]>Here are a few updates from this past year that we’re proud to share with our residents.
Platinum Suites Conversion in Ottawa for A Touch of Elegance
One of our standout projects this year is our Platinum Suites conversion, a collaboration with Capital Royal Renovations. The makeover has brought a touch of luxury to several of our Ottawa properties – Lincoln Park Tower, Parkway Towers, Lakeview Apartments, The Faircrest, and Riverton Park. Approximately 30 suites have been revamped to include new LED light fixtures, in-suite climate controls, stainless steel appliances and quartz countertops, new luxury vinyl plank flooring, new bathroom fixtures, and plumbing and electrical upgrades.

Lincoln Park Tower: Modern Rental Office Upgrade
The rental office at Lincoln Park Tower underwent an overhaul, introducing residents to the vision of the entire design team at Osgoode Properties. Interior colours were chosen to align with our brand identity; the upgraded office offers a modern solution that enhances the resident experience.

Juliana Apartments Balcony Project: Phase One of Renewal
In the first phase of the Juliana Apartments project, old balconies were replaced with new concrete pads and modern glass railings to improve structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. This ongoing endeavour, initiated in 2019, promises a revamped aesthetic for the building by May 2024.

Riverton Park: Balcony Upgrades and Green Initiatives
Over the past three years, Riverton Park has received a significant upgrade to the building’s balconies as well as the installation of electric vehicle chargers and a backup generator. These changes speak to Osgoode Properties’ commitment to green initiatives and providing residents with the tools needed to lead sustainable lifestyles.

Parkway Towers Canopy: Resolving Structural Concerns
The canopy at Parkway Towers underwent a vital upgrade to address structural issues. The improvements were both functional and aesthetic, as seen in the before and after photos below. The new canopy enhances safety and stability while refreshing the building’s visual identity to create a more inviting space for residents and visitors alike.

Common Area Renovations
The common areas at Pleasant Park, Lincoln Park Towers, and Richlin Apartments experienced a facelift this year, with upgrades including new lighting, carpet, and paint to create a fresh and modern atmosphere. Occupancy sensors were installed to detect when the space isn't being used, at which point the lights will turn off automatically to conserve energy.

Generator Project Upgrades: Powering Reliability
In an effort to ensure uninterrupted power supply and improve safety and convenience for residents, we have installed new generators at Riverside Towers, Lakeview Apartments, Le 700 St. Joseph, Kingsview Apartments, Le Salaberry Apartments, Pleasant Park, and The Oaks Apartments.

Fitness Room Updates For a Healthier Lifestyle
Exercise enthusiasts rejoice! We’ve upgraded the fitness rooms at Riverton Park, Brittany Drive Apartments, Richlin Apartments, Parkway Towers, Lincoln Park Tower, The Faircrest, and Le 700 St. Joseph. The fitness rooms feel bright and welcoming with new artwork and a fresh coat of paint, making it just a bit easier to get motivated to reach those 2024 fitness goals.

This year at Osgoode Properties we’ve not only focused on transforming our rental properties but also on reshaping the way our residents live and thrive in them. With efforts to include elements of luxury, sustainability, and modernity, we hope to enhance the comfort and living experience of all of our residents.

]]>The post 5 Secrets to Being the Best Neighbour In the Building appeared first on Osgoode Properties Blog.
]]>It sounds so obvious, but being friendly, respectful, and helpful to those around you can make a huge difference in your quality of life. You don’t need to become besties with everyone on your floor, but getting along with those around you will help you (and your neighbours) feel more at home.
We’re sharing our top five secrets to being the best neighbour in the building!
1. Break The Ice
Simply put, you can't build a strong community without talking to each other. Take a minute to greet your neighbours when you see them in the hallway, strike up a conversation in the elevator, or extend a good old fashioned hello when you're out walking your dog.
Communication goes beyond just being friendly. It's also important to be willing to have difficult conversations with your neighbours when necessary. If someone is being too loud, it's much better to address the issue directly and respectfully than to stew in silence and let the problem fester.

Image from Pexels
2. Do Unto Others (The Golden Rule)
While friendliness and communication go a long way, so do boundaries and privacy. This means being mindful of noise levels, not intruding on one another’s personal space, and being aware of when it's appropriate to approach someone and when it's not.
If you know your neighbour across the hall works from home and needs quiet during the day, don’t let Fido bark insistently. Similarly, if your next door neighbour has young children who go to bed early, think twice about hanging your family photos in the evening!
3. Spread Positivity
One of the best ways to build a strong, neighbourly community is to be willing to offer help and support to your neighbours when they need it. Is Betty, your 70-year-old neighbour, struggling with her groceries? Lend a hand! Or, hold the door for a resident who is fumbling for their keys.
Being a good neighbour isn't just about what you get out of the relationship – it's also about what you give. By being supportive and helpful to those around you, you'll be contributing to a more positive and harmonious living environment for everyone.

4. Bring Neighbours Together
Ready to earn the award for best neighbour in the building? Organize community events! This could be as simple as hosting a potluck dinner in the common area or as involved as planning a building-wide holiday party.
The key is to find activities that will bring people together and encourage them to get to know each other in a casual, low-pressure setting. It’s also a great way to foster friendships and build a sense of camaraderie among your neighbours.
5. Be The Change
Being proactive, rather than reactive, when issues arise in the building means being willing to speak up when you notice something that needs to be addressed. It also means working with your neighbours and building management to find a solution. Is your neighbour piling their trash on the floor? Offer a friendly reminder of the proper protocol for disposal.
Being proactive in problem-solving can help prevent small issues from turning into major conflicts. It can also help build trust and respect among your neighbours, as they'll see that you're committed to making the building a better place for everyone.

Master The Art of Being a Great Neighbour
Here are even easier ways to be the best neighbour you can be:
- Be mindful of your own behavior and how it may impact others
- Be open to feedback and willing to make changes to improve your relationships
- Be respectful of others' cultural backgrounds and beliefs
- Be willing to compromise when necessary to find solutions that work for everyone
Being a good neighbour is about more than just being friendly and saying hello in the hallway – it's about building a strong community where people feel comfortable, respected, and supported. You never know what kind of positive impact you might have on those around you!

]]>The post 9 Great Tips for Zero Waste Grocery Shopping appeared first on Osgoode Properties Blog.
]]>Here’s a list of 9 great tips that are easy to implement in your food planning and grocery shopping routine. Added bonus – zero waste shopping tends to support local businesses as well. #OsgoodeLovesLocal
1. Purchase Reusable Shopping and Produce Bags
A lot of stores are starting to eliminate plastic & paper carrying bags, so there’s no better time to invest in reusable grocery bags if you haven’t already. You can also level up by purchasing reusable produce bags for loose fruits and vegetables. Store these bags in convenient places like the back of your car or folded in your backpack or purse so you never forget them! A simple yet highly effective way to reduce unnecessary plastic waste!

Photo from Pexels
2. Bulk & Fill Up!
This is a great way to keep excessive packaging out of landfills and allows you to buy in quantities that you actually need. It’s a quick Google search to find zero waste grocery stores and refill/bulk stores near you. Invest in containers for storing bulk dry good items like grains, nuts, cereals, and seeds. As a bonus, buying dry foods in bulk often saves you money. You can keep track of expiration dates by writing them directly on the containers with an erasable marker. Make a habit of checking the dates – if you do end up with more than you need, then why not share with family and friends before the expiry?
3. Support Local
What better way to support local farmers than to purchase produce directly. There are farmer markets open year-round in most cities, so take a moment to Google the ones near you! Buying local is a great way to support a more sustainable planet. It benefits the local economy and helps stop over-farming and deforestation. You’ll find a wide selection with quality that exceeds many of the imported items found in big chain stores. Items bought fresh have longer lifespans and will not perish as quickly. Reduce even more waste by remembering to bring those reusable bags along with you!

4. Buy in Season
Find out which fruits and vegetables are in season and plan meals to take advantage of the different harvests. For example, peaches are best to buy in July, August, and September, while fresh asparagus is available in May and June. Find a produce season chart online for your area like the Foodland Ontario Availability Guide. By purchasing in-season, your produce will be better quality and not spoil as quickly. Added bonus – in-season means more supply and you’ll likely pay a lower price!
5. Shop on a Full Stomach
It may sound strange, but this tip can really impact how you shop for food! Going to the grocery store hungry can derail your original list and cause impulse purchases. Excess items will drift to the back of your fridge and eventually be thrown away. Try going after a meal to help you stick to your plan and only buy what you actually need.

Photo from Pexels
6. Check Expiration Dates
Always look at expiration dates, especially on perishables like dairy products. On occasion, a short-dated product hasn’t been removed from the shelf and your purchase quickly turns to waste before you can eat it. But do grab the shorter-dated items if you’re planning to cook a big batch meal or consume quickly – this in turn helps the store itself lower its perishable waste.
7. Avoid Subscribing to Pre-Packaged Meal Services
It can be tough balancing everyday tasks, pre-planning meals, grocery shopping and cooking. While subscriptions to pre-packaged meal services can be very convenient, most leverage a lot of single use material waste. Instead, try planning meals that use the same ingredients to lower the effort you’ll need throughout the week. For example, cook enough rice for a few different meals and prewash & cut vegetables for the week. If you’re a novice chef stick to easy meals to start your culinary journey. There are countless sites to visit for recipes and YouTube can be a great sous chef!

Photo from Pexels
8. Avoid Pre-Packaged Produce
Avoid produce sealed in plastic. It’s more expensive and often has a shorter lifespan in the fridge. Moisture trapped in the packaging often fosters the growth of mould or mildew. Go for the loose produce and remember to pack it in your reusable bags! Not only will you reduce packaging waste, but produce will also keep better too.
9. Make a List, Check It Twice
Before heading to the store take the time to plan your meals for the week. Next look at the meals you’ve chosen to accurately list the ingredients you need. Don’t forget to check your cabinets and refrigerator to avoid duplicating ingredients you may already have.
With your plan in place and these helpful tips – you’re ready to go zero waste grocery shopping! You’ll soon be enjoying fresher, healthier meals while saving money. You’ll also be helping to make this world a better place with a more sustainable future.
